Center Stage

Jessica Leigh Purdy, 13 ~ Metz Middle School

I attend Metz Middle and I am in the Edge Club (which is after school Christian program). I am in the Battle of the Books (I had to read twenty books and go to competitions regarding the books). Next year I'll be attending Osbourn SH. I look forward to going to Tuesday night dinners and seeing all my friends. I am in the 8-9 girls small group (obviously) and I like everything about it; the stuff we talk about, the girls and the atmosphere there.

What is your favorite song?
Boston by Augustana.

What time period would you travel back to?
I would not want to travel anywhere else than here because I enjoy what I learn and everything I have. Most people might want to go back when Jesus was still alive but I like staying in this time being proof that people still believe in God.

What is the best movie you've seen lately?
The Lord of Rings: The Return of the King

If you could appear on a TV show, which would it be? Iron Chef. Why?
I love that show, it is so fun to watch. Again, why? I love cooking. Cooking is my passion.

If you could be famous for something, what would it be?
I would write a prize winning book. It would be one of those suspense thrillers. I love those.

Next Month We'll Check Out: Nik Biedermann

Fighter Verse of the Month

(We want to share our conviction with you guys on scripture memorization. We actually have four convictions that we hope you will share with us on this subject: The life of faith is a fight of faith, and we must all be well-armed for this fight. The Word of God is an indispensable weapon for those (you all who have proclaimed Christ as your savior) engaged in this battle. The "battle" is becoming increasingly fierce while many Christians are unskilled in using this weapon effectively. Committing the Word of God to memory makes this powerful weapon readily available and provides us with an ever-present counselor and protector from the enemy of our souls. Each month we give you a piece of scripture and we truly hope that you will start to take that month and meditate on this single piece of scripture and learn it, memorize it and place it deep with in you to sustain you in this battle. 2 Cor. 10:3-4, 1 Tim 1:18c, 1 Peter 3:15b, 2 Tim 3:16-17)

Girl's Corner

Short Shorts!

About a month ago Stuart asked me about doing a blog area for the Wave specifically designed for girls. Seeing as how summer is soon approaching and the recent shopping that I did, I thought I might share my thoughts on "SHORT SHORTS"!

Ok girls, seriously I went shopping and I have seen what people are wearing. Shorts are no longer shorts; they are just external underwear now. Does anybody really think that this is attractive? I certainly do not. God created us all unique; we are His precious children whom He loves. Do you think He wants to see His daughters walking around with about 5 inches of fabric covering their lower halves? I don't think so. We are precious and need to show that to the rest of the world.

And then there is another aspect, is anyone really comfortable wearing these "shorts"? I tried on a pair when I went shopping just for the fun of it. NOT COOL! I felt so self-conscious even when I was alone in the fitting room. I can't imagine what it is like to be walking around in public looking like that! But I think I know why girls dress like this. The fashion industry designs these clothes and the celebrities and models and "in" stores all approve of them. This puts the picture into the heads of today's teen girl that it is perfectly fine to wear Short Shorts. (It is not only fashion shorts, its gym shorts too! How can somebody really workout and be comfortable in those!)

And then there is the whole idea that guys think that it's attractive! I need to know the truth! Please guys, please, girls need to know how bad this looks, so just tell us (I really, really want some male input on this one. Fell free to respond)!

So now that I told you how stupid and disgusting it looks I have to offer some advice. Next time you go shopping or decide you want to wear shorts, look at the shorts that actually cover you put them on and wear them, just to see how it is. I think you'll find that it is much more comfortable, and you won't feel self-conscious, and ladies God will approve of what we are wearing.

Thanks for listening to my rant, and think about what you put on in the morning!
I would love to hear some feedback and responses; e-mail me at Rookbe01@aol.com

~Brooke Stevens~ "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price.
So glorify God in your body." (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

Band of the Month
FALLING UP

Check them out at their Myspace page: Falling Up

Letter to the Editor

Each month we take questions to give answers to. Questions do not have to be simply about faith they can also be things such as; how tall is Pastor Glenn really?, who is older, Kevin or Stuart? no question is a bad one here. The biggest question for me right now is; "Who is going to be this year's American Idol?!?

Just submit your question to thirst@tsmst.org and we will respond
with an appropriate answer in next month's edition of The Wave.

Next Month's Wave

- A JNS Section
- The Guy's Dugout

We are always taking suggestions for new sections of The Wave. If you have a good idea for a section to The Wave, you can send those in to thirst@tsmst.org as well.

Have an awesome Summer and keep on Thirsting for the Lord!
